Dear NGO representatives,

General Assembly resolution A/59/177 of 20 December 2004, entitled
"Global efforts for the total elimination of racism, racial
discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance and the comprehensive
implementation of
and follow-up to the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action",
requests the Secretary-General to submit a report on the implementation
of the resolution to the General Assembly at its sixtieth session. You
can consult last year's report to  the  General  Assembly  (A/59/375)

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights would like to
invite all NGOs with ECOSOC status, as well as organizations which were
accredited specifically  to the World Conference against Racism, Racial
Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, to send their
contributions for this year's report to the Anti-Discrimination Unit by
30 June 2005 at the latest. In order to facilitate the submission of a
report
that identifies global trends in the fight against racism, racial
discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, a guidance note on
responses is attached.

Please note that submissions should be sent only by fax on letterhead,
signed by the appropriate official of your organization to:

Contributions to Report of the Secretary-General on Global efforts for
the total elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and
related intolerance and the comprehensive implementation of and
follow-up to the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action
                            
General Assembly
Sixtieth Session

Guidance Note on Contributions

1. Responses should not exceed one page (supporting documents can be
attached).

2. Kindly indicate your accreditation status with the Economic and
Social Council.

3. Bearing in mind the text of General Assembly Resolution A/RES/59/177,
responses should concentrate on the following questions:

- Has your organization developed any specific programmes or adopted any
specific measures to combat racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia or
another form of intolerance, or to promote non-discrimination and
equality?
- Has your organization developed specific forms of international or
regional cooperation with other organizations or with States?
- Has your organization undertaken any actions to counter the
dissemination of discriminatory, racist and xenophobic messages on in
the Internet, in accordance with paragraphs 144 to 147 of the Durban
Declaration and Programme of Action, and to promote a positive use of
the Internet to foster social harmony and to combat
racism?
- Has your organization undertaken any other action to combat racism,
racial discrimination, xenophobia or other forms of intolerance; or to
promote non-discrimination and equality? (e.g. publications, meetings,
campaigns,
etc)
