Estonian Parliament fails to adopt law on equal treatment
On 7 May 2008 the Estonian Parliament failed to adopt the draft Law on
Equal Treatment, which was to complete the process of transposition of
the EU anti-discrimination directives (2000/43 and 2000/78) into
Estonian legislation. However, on 8 May 2008 the ruling coalition
parliamentary factions initiated a new similar bill fearing sanctions
from the EU. It will be the fourth comprehensive attempt of the Estonian
parliament to transpose the EC anti-discrimination directives into
national law.
