The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights presents its
compliments to non-governmental organisations and would like to invite
them to the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination
of Racial Discrimination. The theme for this year's commemoration is
Racism and Discrimination - Obstacles to Development.

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights has the honour to
inform the non-governmental organisations that a high level panel
discussion will be held during which several issues, related to the
theme, will be addressed: relationships between racial discrimination,
poverty and development; racial discrimination, economic growth and
development; racial discrimination, good governance and development; and
racial discrimination, conflicts and development. The event will take
place on 21 March 2007, from 13:00 to 15:00, in Palais des Nations, Room
XXI.

The list with the names of the guest speakers taking part in the panel
discussion is attached. Updated information on the event will be posted
on the webpage specifically devoted to the commemoration:
http://www.ohchr.org/english/events/racism/. Non-governmental
organizations that have consultative status with the Economic and Social
Council and non-governmental organizations that were accredited for the
World Conference against Racism are welcome to attend the session.
Interested NGOs are invited to communicate the names of their
representatives who will attend the session only by fax +41 22 917 90 50
on letterhead, signed by the appropriate official of the organization.

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights seizes this
opportunity to renew to non-governmental organisations the assurance of
their highest consideration.
