The criminal charges against the SOVA -

On July 17, 2007, the SOVA Center finally found out the precise
information about criminal charges initiated against it in response to
the complaint of Andrey Savelyev.
The confusion was caused by the fact that there were two separate cases.
Firstly, the charges in connection with libel (article 129 of the
Criminal Code) were indeed initiated. According to Elena Perfilova from
the press-service of the Central district police department of Moscow,
the case is now being investigated by the “Tverskoje” police department.
However, we still don’t know which particular SOVA publication was the
reason for the charges.
Secondly, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Central district of Moscow is
still in the process of checking about 10 publications on Savelyev’s
party “The Great Russia”, including our publication, to find out whether
they do incite social hatred (article 282) towards it or not, and
consequently whether they should initiate charges against us or not.
Meanwhile, the “Russian project” of “The United Russia” party has
removed the banner of the Savelyev’s magazine “Zolotoj Lev” (“Golden
Lion”) from its website. It was our commentary on this banner, which
made Savelyev write his complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office.
