TURKS-AKHISKA CONCERNED WITH DELAY OF DISCUSSION ON BILL FOR THEIR
RETURN TO GEORGIA

BAKU/12.12.06/TURAN: "We are concerned that the Georgian parliament has
not begun discussing of the project for the Turks -Akhiska's
(Meshetin's) return to Georgia", Ibrahim Burkhanov, the leader of
"Vatan" organization said.

He said that on Dec. 2 the congress of the Turks-Akhiska appealed to the
Georgian authorities to speed up discussion of the project. The same
appeal noted that the Turks did not want to return as independent
citizens, they want to return as representatives of native people and
must live together. Burkhanov said that the bill was approved by the
CE, however, the discussion in Georgia has been
delayed.
