LAWYER FOR THE SECURITY & RULE OF LAW PROGRAMME

INTERIGHTS, the International Centre for the Legal Protection of Human
Rights, is seeking an experienced international human rights lawyer to
take up an exciting new post as Lawyer for its Security and Rule of Law
Programme. This Programme focuses on the legal protection of human
rights particularly in the context of the "War on Terror". It includes
safeguarding against torture, inhuman and degrading treatment,
arbitrariness in arrest, detention and judicial proceedings (including
extra-legal rendition) as well as the protection of the independence of
judges. 

The Lawyer for the Security and Rule of Law Programme will be
responsible for developing and implementing INTERIGHTS� programme on
these issues and will work with key stakeholders such as lawyers,
judges, human rights organisations and other relevant institutions. They
will be responsible for identifying areas of the law in which strategic
litigation and other means of intervention will advance legal standards
in this field. In addition, they will work with INTERIGHTS' other
regional and thematic programmes on Security and the Rule of Law matters
as they arise.

The successful candidate will have a sophisticated knowledge of
international human rights law on the issues covered by the Security and
Rule of Law Programme, relevant professional experience, and experience
litigating cases on these issues. Fluency in English is essential and
other languages are an advantage.

The Lawyer will join a staff of twenty, including ten lawyers. They will
be based in London, but will be required to travel from time to time.
The salary ranges from ?33,000 - ?39,000 (plus an attractive benefits
package) according to skills and experience. Assistance with relocation
is available in certain circumstances.
