NICOLE PALASZ LEAVES THE NEW TACTICS PROJECT

It is with great sadness that we announce the departure of Nicole Palasz
from the New Tactics in Human Rights Project. Nicole worked as the New
Tactics Project Associate for more than three years, where she spent
much of her time coordinating the project's research for training events
and the New Tactics Workbook. This involved conducting interviews with
hundreds of human rights practitioners across the globe. [read the

FEATURE NOTEBOOK: USING SMS TO ENGAGE YOUTH

In recent years, the use of SMS (Simple Message Systems) to organize
activists has risen dramatically, particularly in Europe. This month
we'd like to feature Sending Out an SMS, a tactical notebook written by
Anneke Bosman from Amnesty International - The Netherlands. [read the
notebook]

Anneke participated in the New Tactics West Group Workshop, where she
presented the use of SMS as an effective tactic.

ONLINE DISCUSSION WORKSHOP TO BEGIN OCTOBER 10

The first ever New Tactics Online Discussion Workshop is scheduled to
take place October 10 to November 16, 2005. This is a discussion-based
event, in which more than 30 participants will use and discuss New
Tactics resources and tools to more effectively advance their own
efforts.

This is a pilot event that we hope to replicate in the future. Stay
tuned to www.newtactics.org for more information regarding this and
other training events.

NEW TRAINING TOOLS AVAILABLE ONLINE
