A plenary session of the Council of Samtskhe-Javakheti non-governmental
organizations was held in Akhalkalaki on November 16. During the
session, the members of the council discussed the process of collecting
signatures to prepare legislative initiative grounding on the
resolutions adopted by the third councils congress.

The council passed a decision before collecting the signatures to inform
Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Nino Burjanadze on the initiative.
The council was also offered to ask the speaker in the letter about a
possibility to carry out parliamentary hearings on granting autonomy
status to Dzhavakh and on federal system of Georgia without collecting
signatures. A proposal to hold a meeting with Nino Burjanadze to discuss
details of the issue was also adopted, reports the Dzhavakh agency
A-Info.

Samtskhe-Javakheti is an Armenian-populated area of Georgia.
