HUNGARIAN PARTY SUPPORTS NEW CABINET

BUCHAREST - Romania's right-leaning new prime minister designate Calin
Popescu Tariceanu announced his cabinet, including a Hungarian minority
UDMR party and the PUR. The 24-member designated coalition government
had been chosen on the basis of "competence and morality," Tariceanu
told journalists.

Negotiations with the PUR and UDMR had produced "a stable majority
around the DA Alliance which will represent the core of the future
government," Tariceanu said. Three ministers of state without portfolio
will also have responsibility for the economy, culture, and small and
medium enterprises. They are respectively Adriean Videanu (DA), Bela
Marko (UDMR), and George Copos (PUR).

LEGAL FRAMEWORK OF THE CULTURAL AUTONOMY TO BE ESTABLISHED IN THE
UPCOMINMG FOUR YEARS, HUNGARIAN LEADER SAYS

BUCHAREST � The chairman of the Hungarian Democrat Union in Romania
(UDMR) Marko Bela said the legislation of the cultural autonomy could be
established in Romania in the upcoming four years.

Altogether, according to UDMR leader, the administrative-territorial
autonomy could be accomplished through powerful decentralization, which
is a task of the government led by Calin Popescu Tariceanu setup
following last year�s election. ''From this point of view, the
reorganization of the regions of economic development is a prerequisite
and I believe we could agree in that matter too'', added Marko Bela.
UDMR chairman stressed out that all the regions of economic development
in Romania must be supported to acquire a higher degree of autonomy
under the circumstances the autonomy and economy are the key-problems
worldwide in the upcoming years.

HUNGARIAN DOCUMENTARY ON TRIANON TRIGGERS CONTROVERSY

BUCHAREST - Culture Minister Mona Musca on 10 January banned any further
showing in Romania of a Hungarian documentary film on the 1920 Trianon
Treaty on the grounds that it is chauvinistic, RFE/RL reported. The
14-part documentary was produced by Hungarian film director Gabor Koltai
and is based on the works of Hungarian historian Erno Raffayi. A shorter
two-hour version was shown in Cluj on 9 January under the auspices of
the local Hungarian Reformed Theological Institute. Reformed Bishop
Laszlo Toekes appears in the documentary. Hungarian State Television
(MTV) and Duna TV, which broadcasts for Hungarian minorities abroad,
refused to broadcast the documentary on grounds that it was anti-Semitic
and incited revisionism.

On related development, Kovacs Imre Csaba (46 years old), in Miercurea
Ciuc county seat, representative of the organization of Magyar
Youngsters in Transylvania and Jakab Attila (25 years old), in Odorheiu
Secuiesc, Chairman of the Youngsters� Forum in Odorhei, were given a
fine worth ROL50 mn as they distributed the documentary without
authorization.
