On 13 January 2004 the Public Movement Multinational Georgia (PMMG)
appealed to international organizations accredited in Georgia and to
European human rights organizations, in order to get their support for
PMMG's lobbing efforts for Georgia to ratify the Council of Europe
Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, as well
as to adopt legislation on the rights and freedoms of national
minorities in Georgia. PMMG has already prepared a draft law "On
Protection of Rights and Freedoms of National Minorities in Georgia" and
distributed to all non-governmental organizations and political parties
for discussion. The draft is in conformity with all domestic and
international norms. This draft is different from previous versions
prepared in Georgia as it provides representatives of national
minorities with more opportunities to participate in public and
political life of the country, particularly, through quotas in
legislative and executive branches of power.
