On March 6, 2003 the participants of the third Roma Political Leadership
training, organized by Human Rights Project, established The National
Roma Association of Experts on Ethnic and Demographic Issues in
Bulgaria. Founder-members of the Association are Municipal and Regional
Roma experts and Roma government employees in Ministries and State
agencies. The aims of the Association are to coordinate the efforts for
implementation on local, regional and national level The Framework
Programme for Equal Integration of Roma in Bulgarian Society, adopted by
Bulgarian Government in 1999; to support the efforts of the Local
Government in this direction, to approve the unified statute of Experts
on Ethnic and Demographic Issues in Bulgaria and to have a real role in
decision-making process for implementation of the Framework Programme.
The Constituent Assembly was held in Rila Hotel, Sofia, Bulgaria. The
chair of the Association is Georgi Mikov - Regional Expert on Ethnic and
Demographic Issues in Sofia.
