Course on Linguistic and Minority Rights 
10-14 November 2003, Turku/Abo, Finland

This one-week intensive course is meant to give a systematic picture of
the norms on non-discrimination, linguistic and minority rights within
the United Nations, Council of Europe, OSCE and European Union contexts. 

The course is composed of lectures and case studies and an optional
written exam. Those who successfully complete the course, including the
written exam, will receive a Diploma equivalent to 5 Finnish credits or
7.5 ECTS credits. With no written exam, the participants will receive a
Certificate of Attendance equivalent to 1 Finnish credit or 1.5 ECTS
credits. 

The number of participants is restricted to 25. The course fee is EUR
560. For those not requiring lodging, the fee is 360 EUR. Students at
Abo Akademi University and the University of Turku are exempted from the
fee. The course receives financial support from the Ministry for Foreign
Affairs and the Ministry of Education. 

Applicants should complete the attached application form, include 1�2
separate letters of recommendation, and return the form to the Institute
for Human Rights at the address below.

The Institute for Human Rights was established in 1985 as a unit of Abo
Akademi University, Finland�s Swedish-language university. It is closely
linked with the Department of Law at Abo Akademi University. The
principal aim of the Institute is to promote research, provide education
and disseminate information relating to the protection of human rights.
The 2003 course is the first course on linguistic and minority rights
conducted by the Institute.
