Eastern Europe & e-mail

(From the moderator: the following message appeared in some mailing
lists. I believe it might be of interest for those interested in
networking. Boris)

I am again trying to set up an e-mail exchange between students in US
and
E. Europe (between Berlin and the Urals and from the Black to the White
Sea). If anybody is interested and willing to join in the endeavor or is
willing to suggest individuals there I might contact please respond to:
[email protected] The ideal would be a faculty person at an
educational institution who would have some students who would be
interested.

Some of you may remember I tried something along those lines last
spring. It worked after a fashion. I was able to recruit some people in
Latvia and Lithuania who did correspond with my students. With one or
two exceptions the students here were satisfied with the experience and
so I would like to repeat it next semester. However, I would like to
expand geographically beyond the Baltics. I also relearned (something
most of us know, but this was strongly reinforced) that one has to go
via the personal contact. Impersonal recruiting did not work. I got one
or two individuals that way.

I would be interested in any thoughts and ideas you might have regarding
individuals to contact, or projects they might undertake etc.
