Quiery: Linguistic legislation of the European Union
To whom it may concern,
I am writing my thesis on the linguistic legislation of the European
Union, however, I am not focusin on the EU's concern with minority
languages in its member states, but on the problem of official
languages and non-official (thus, on the supranational level
minority-) languages in the legislation. Depending on the political
significance of a member state, its language acquires more
significance, and thus is nominated official. However, in this sense,
the official language of smaller countries with less political power
becomes non-official, thus a minority language.
I would like to investigate the problem of democratic deficit in the
linguistic sense.
Could you help me acquire some information on this topic, and could I
ask for the lectures given on the conference, relating to this issue?
Thank you in advance,
Susanna Schnell
