ITAR-TASS: Crimean Tatars Kurultay denounce any forms of
terrorism

Crimean Tatars denounce any forms of terrorism
November 11, 2001
ITAR-TASS News Agency, by Lev Ryabchikov

The Kurultai of Crimean Tatars, whose first session is nearing the end
in Simferopol, has denounced any forms of terrorism.

The instigators, organizers and doers of terrorist acts must be
punished regardless their ideological, ethnic, religious or class
motivations, says a statement made by the Kurultai on Sunday. This
revenge can have any forms but not the ones that multiply civilian
casualties, the statement runs. The Kurultai supported the initiative
of states and international organizations to have a world forum on
security and cooperation in solving the inequality problem.

It appealed to the United Nations, the OSCE, the Council of Europe and
the European Union to assist the restoration of rights of Crimean
Tatars and their official status of the native people of the Crimea.

The Kurultai ratified an agreement between the Crimean Tatar Majlis
and the People's Rukh of Ukraine to set up a political bloc for the
future election of the Ukrainian and Crimean Parliaments.

Mustafa Dzhemilev was re-elected as the Majlis Chairman for the third
term of office. This time he was supported by 180 out of 250 delegates
to the Kurultai. Representatives of radical organizations distributed
a draft statement, denouncing the course of Dzhemilev and his deputy
Refat Chubarov towards integration of Crimean Tatars with the
Ukrainian state and demanding to start the implementation of the
declaration on Crimean Tatar's national sovereignty. The declaration
was made by the Kurultai ten years ago.
