Help with European report 9 November

DON'T THROW AWAY THOSE OLD NEWSPAPERS YET!
Please check them for articles on the "Kristallnacht" commemoration
first!

Dear friends,

Yesterday, on 9 November 2000, thousands of people in 35 European
countries commemorated the "Kristallnacht" pogrom together and showed
their will to resist against intolerance. In our European report about
the International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism we want to
reflect the diversity of activities in Europe.

We need your help to complete our picture of what has happened on 9
November and to make the campaign report as informative and nice as
possible. For that we need:
- reports (just a few lines is enough)
- leaflets, posters, other publicity material
- newspaper articles
- photographs
and all other graphic material which you have produced and which
documentates your activities. Especially interesting would be the
documentation of reactions from the public and the press. The better
the information is we get, the better the report will be!

Please send all information to us as soon as possible, but at the
latest before 18 December.

You'll receive the report in the second mailing of the new year. If
you need additional copies (for example for your sponsors), let us
know. You can find more information on the campaign on
http://www.united.non-profit.nl (check out 'new on this site')

Keep up the good work!

A SHORT OVERVIEW ABOUT 9 NOVEMBER 2000:
INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST FASCISM AND ANTI-SEMITISM

In Romania YAP-Oradera commemorated the "Kristallnacht" with creative
ideas. The street scene was in a star of David made by candles and
there was a theatre play and pantomime. In Bucharest the gay and
lesbian organisation ACCEPT had the possibilitiy to discuss their
problems in public and a representative held a speech on a Seminar of
Rromani Criss.

In Finland and Sweden there were commemorations in eleven cities, 600
people were on the streets of Stockholm.

In Germany more than 30 commemorations took place. Demonstrations,
meetings, exhibitions and concerts were organised all over the
country. More than 300.000 people were on the streets of Berlin and
30.000 commemorated the "Kristallnacht" in Bremerhaven.

In the Netherlands commemorations took place in eleven cities. At the
Dokwerker in Amsterdam several hundred people attended.

Commemorations were often used to protest against the inhumane and
degrading treatment of refugees and minorities in Europe today. In
Russia the discrimination of the Caucasians was theme of many
demonstrations and in Austria the commemorations of "Kristallnacht"
were linked to the problems with the right-wing government.
