LGI Managing Multiethnic Communities Project
 
Call for Papers
 
ETHNIC RELATIONS IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE AND IN THE COUNTRIES OF
THE FORMER SOVIET UNION
A Database of Research Papers
 
The LGI Managing Multiethnic Communities Project (MMCP) is happy to
announce an initiative to disseminate research papers focusing on
multicultural politics and ethnic relations in Central and Eastern
Europe and in states of the former Soviet Union.
 
MMCP is calling organizations and individuals with an expertise in
issues related to minorities and multicultural politics in CEE, SEE
and NIS, to submit their previously written papers and reports to the
LGI MMCP for publication in the database of research papers on the
Internet. This database will inform researchers and policy-makers and
other users of the database about  the activities of various research
institutions as well as about recent research outcomes.
 
The following list consists of possible subject areas of studies.
However, this list should not be taken as a full list, it is rather a
suggestion. Any other important topic relevant to local governance in
multi-ethnic environment is welcome.
 
- Participation and representation of minorities
- Strategies of management of inter-ethnic relations, conflict
prevention, ethnic conflict resolution
- Preservation of culture and identity (degree of self-organisation,
autonomy)
- Education for minorities (mother tongue, culture, history)
- Socio-economic empowering of minorities (that would incorporate
local policies concerning welfare,  health, poverty, unemployment and
housing)
- Use of mother tongue in public administration
- Representation of minorities in the public discourse and the media
- Implementation of standards and guarantees of rights,
- Discrimination and equal opportunities for minorities, positive
discrimination
- Financing minority initiatives and organisations at the local level
- Accommodation, settlement and repatriation of refugees, migrants
 
Papers will be posted to LGI's world wide web site
<http://www.osi.hu/lgi/ethnic/relations> in a database. In the
database the full text of the research paper and a link to the
contributing organization's web site or a reference to the contact
address will appear.
 
Papers should be submitted in English or in original language with an
English language summary.
 
Should you be interested  in participating in this project, please
forward a copy of each paper in Rich Text Format along with the
submission form (see below) to Petra Kovacs  at  [email protected].
