Research Studentships in Minority Rights at Intercollege,
Cyprus

RESEARCH STUDENTSHIPS IN "MINORITY RIGHTS"

Intercollege, a privately funded institution of higher education in
Nicosia, Cyprus is offering 2 research studentships in "Minority
Rights" under the direction of Dr Tim Potier, Assistant Professor and
Head of the Law Department at Intercollege.

The studentships, which will commence on 29th January 2001 and be
completed on 31st August 2002, entitle the successful applicants to
free tuition on Intercollege's Master of Arts in International
Relations degree. There is an additional possibility of obtaining, at
the cost of just under $2000, a US degree (MA) from the University of
Indianapolis. Upon completion of the MA and the studentship, students
would also have the option to proceed with PhD studies at the
University of Indianapolis: although this would have to be financed
entirely by the student.

The successful candidates will be expected, during the course of the
studentship, to assist Dr Potier, for a minimum of 30 hours per week,
with his ongoing research on minority rights in international and
municipal law; the law of self-determination; law pertaining to
autonomy; and international law in a wider sense. Bearing in mind Dr
Potier's expertise on the rights of minorities in the (now
independent) countries that, earlier, formed a part of the Soviet
Union, a large part of the research will be concentrated in this area.
Dr Potier is author of the forthcoming book, Conflict in
Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia and South Ossetia: A Legal Appraisal, to be
published by Kluwer Law International (November 2000).

While applications from any candidate would be welcome, a distinct
preference for those with knowledge of Russian should be noted. It is
hoped that at least one of the successful candidates will have
knowledge of Estonian, Latvian or both. Successful candidates will
also be expected to have very good knowledge of the English language.
Any successful candidate whose English is found to be unsatisfactory
will have his/her studentship terminated.

NOTE:

(1) The language of instruction at Intercollege is English.

(2) During the course of the studentship, accommodation and living
expenses will have to be shouldered by the student him/herself.

(3) Any applicant should be able to demonstrate completion of their
Bachelor degree studies.

(4) Intercollege, inter alia, is a campus of the University of
Indianapolis.

For further information on the Master of Arts in International
Relations, goto http://www.intercol.edu and click on "Programme of
studies", refer "International Relations, Master of Arts".

Applicants must send a copy of their CV to Dr Tim Potier by e-mail,
[email protected], no later than Thursday 30th November. The CV must
include, inter alia, a telephone number for easy contacting, in order
that Dr Potier can interview shortlisted candidates. Shortlisted
candidates will be required to fax a transcript of their Bachelor
degree.

The Department of International Relations is headed by Professor
Andreas Theophanous, who is also Director of the Research and
Development Center at Intercollege.
