Dear colleagues,

PfP Consortium's Secretariat Working Group has approved a proposal for
the Crisis Management in Southern Caucasus Study Group.

The Crisis Management in Southern Caucasus Study Group has been
established under the Paretnership for Peace Consortium of Defense
Academies and Security Studies Institutes. The Crisis Management in
Southern Caucasus Study Group will contribute to the process of
resolving security problems in the region. The group aims to
establish an academic environment for the discussion of actual
problems existing in Southern Caucasus and to support and enhance
stability throughout the region.

The Group aims to carry out research on an academic level, parallel to
the practical work done in the Southern Caucasus region. For
assessing the situation in the Southern Caucasus, the work done by
international organizations in the region will be used. Cooperation
with UN and OSCE special missions working for resolution of conflicts
in Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and Nagorno Kharabakh is a priority of the
group.

While focusing on the topics of security, politics and economy, the
members of the Group will review all the problems encountered and
conduct a comparative analysis of political and economic of security
in the Southern Caucasus. The Group seeks to expand the contacts
between institutions/individuals interested in the regional issues to
form a better understanding of the case scenarios of possible
developments. The group will provide recommendations to parties
included in resolution of Caucasian conflicts.

Group will meet three times in South Caucasus capitals (once per
quarter) for discussing current issues and once at the Consortium's
annual conference for presenting results of yearly work. Besides that,
permanent contacts and information exchanges through Internet will
help to maintain group's members close in their everyday activity.
Maintaining regular contact among institutions and scholars will
increase frequency of cooperation in various projects.
