Mustafa Dzhemilev awarded

Dear friends and colleagues,

For those of you who are still unaware of it, there is a wonderful
news: today, October 5, Mustafa Djemilev, Chairperson of the Mejlis of
Crimean Tatar people, M.P. of Ukraine, received in the Geneva, Palais
les Nations, the highest reward of the UNHCR, namely, the 1998 Nansen
Medal. This decision of the Nansen Committee the UN High Commissioner
for Refugees, Mrs. Sadako Ogata, should have announced on the eve of
the ceremony through a press release.

This award has been first introduced in 1954 for the most impressive
achievements in the sphere of protection of refugees. Among the
previous winners of this award there are many outstanding
personalities and agencies. We are happy and proud that this year, our
dear friend and colleague, leader of Crimean Tatar people and People
Deputy of Ukraine, received this award.

For all of you who'd like to send your congratulations, please do it
by using the fax number of Verhovna Rada (this seems the best to rise
other deputies' awareness) which is (380) 44 293 2315, or fax number
of the Mejlis (380) 652 27 5259, or both.

Looking forward for the enthusiastic reaction of all friends and
supporters of Crimean Tatars' and Ukraine's democracy,

sincerely,

Natalya Belitser
