           REMINDER!!!

DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS IS OCTOBER 31, 1997 for the INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY
FOR THIRD SECTOR RESEARCH (ISTR)'s
THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

Researchers from all countries and disciplines are invited to submit
abstracts and to participate in ISTR's Third International Conference, "The
Contribution of the Third Sector to Social, Economic and Political Change,"
to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, July 8-11, 1998. Key themes of this
conference will be the contribution of the Third Sector to:

-- peace and conflict resolution
-- sustainable development
-- combating poverty and exclusion
-- human welfare
-- the development and contribution of international Third Sector
organizations
-- social, economic and political change

Papers focusing on all aspects of Third Sector research and theory will be
welcome, although we would specifically like to encourage papers dealing
with the contribution of the Third Sector to peace and conflict resolution.
We are particularly interested in papers which offer a comparative element
either across countries or between the Third Sector and the for-profit and
government sectors, and in papers which develop conceptual and
interpretative frameworks for analyzing both the contribution of the sector
and the organizational and management issues involved.

A panel session exploring the changing nature of the cultural landscape in
Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union over the past decade
is being organized in collaboration with The European Journal of Cultural
Policy. There will also be a special panel for papers prepared by
postgraduate (including PhD) students.

Poster sessions are planned for researchers as an alternative to presenting
a full research paper. Researchers will be given the opportunity to display
a poster, as well as relevant materials, about their research.

Abstracts and poster outlines will be accepted by mail and fax only. Submit
double-spaced extended abstracts of up to two pages, poster outlines, and
presenter information sheets in English, French or Spanish by October 31,
1997 to: ISTR, The Johns Hopkins University, 551 Wyman Park Building, 3400 N
. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21218-2688 USA; Fax: 410-516-4870.

A copy of the full Call for Papers is available on our website at http://www
.jhu.edu/~istr/, by calling the ISTR office at 410-516-4678, or by e-mail:
