Tolerance, Respect and HR: Search for key note speakers

Dear list members:

An international initiative Teachers for Tolerance, affiliated to a
Czech NGO, called Citizens Solidarity and Tolerance Movement/HOST, is
searching for five key-note speakers for a conference TOLERANCE,
RESPECT, and HUMAN RIGHTS, that will be held in Prague, January 22,
2000.

(From the moderator: for more details, see MINELRES posting of June
13, 1999, at

Boris)
----
The conference will be open to around 100 students from the Charles
University in Prague and 50 participants of the follow-up three day
workshop. The workshop is targeted at teachers, NGO educators,
academics and other people from Eastern Europe and South Africa who
are interested in education. It is expected that the speakers will
stay for the workshop as well. The key note inputs should provide
theoretical background to the seminar themes. These are:

1. Prejudice, stereotypes, and racism. Different forms of
discrimination.

2. Equal opportunities concept and its implementation.
Anti-discriminatory policies and practice.

3. Individual human rights vs. collective minority rights.
International legislation. Discrepancy between laws and their
implementation.

4. Managing multiethnic communities on local level. Role of school;
creating partnerships.

5. Other topics relevant to multicultural and antiracist education,
including experience from various countries.

If you are interested in presenting a key note speech please send
your paper outline by 30 September 1999. The conference preparatory
meeting will evaluate the papers and select five inputs on October 10.

Unfortunately we can not cover any international travel costs, though
we have limited funds to cover accommodation and meals for the
key-note speakers and participants from Eastern Europe.

Plese forward this notice to anybody who, according to your view,
could be a good key note speaker at our conference.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Yours Sincerely,

PhDr. Laura Laubeova
