PRESS RELEASE

WEEKLY ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER ON BIGOTRY LAUNCHED TODAY
Will Cover Antisemitism, Xenophobia and Religious Persecution in FSU
and Europe

The first issue of a weekly electronic newsletter entitled "Bigotry
Monitor" was launched today by UCSJ: The Union of Councils for Jews in
the Former Soviet Union. It will specialize in news and commentary on
antisemitism, xenophobia and religious persecution across the former
Communist world and Western Europe.

The weekly will be written and edited by Charles Fenyvesi, a veteran
Washington journalist who over the past four decades has worked for
The Washington Post, U.S. News and World Report, The New Republic,
Near East Report, Ha'aretz, Kol Yisrael, and The National Jewish
Monthly. His writings on human rights issues go back to the 1970s,
when he covered the Jackson-Vanik Amendment extensively.

"We are publishing it, but the newsletter will be totally in the hands
of Charles Fenyvesi," said Yosef I. Abramowitz, UCSJ's president.
"While he will have full access to UCSJ's antisemitism monitoring
network in the former Soviet Union, his intellectual and professional
reach extends well beyond the borders of the former Soviet Union," he
added.

"We are proud of this venture and of our association with Charles
Fenyvesi," announced Micah H. Naftalin, UCSJ national director. "As
he notes in his opening article, we know of no general circulation
newspaper or TV station that has established a 'human rights beat.'
UCSJ is pleased to offer this service to the media, the human rights
community and the public. We are thankful to the anonymous benefactor
foundation that is making this possible."

Those wishing to subscribe may email: [email protected] and
enter "subscribe" in the subject box.

All copies of Bigotry Monitor will also appear on UCSJ's website,
www.fsumonitor.com which provides daily news on antisemitism and human
rights in the FSU as well as reports, action alerts and other
information about UCSJ activities.
