DECLARATION FROM SAMORIN
of participants of the international conference of Roma organizations
from Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland
 
Samorin, 2-3rd of June 2001
 
Roma are part of the national states, and by this "Declaration from
Samorin" they are expressing their interest about integration into the
community of the EU. Participants of the international conference of
Roma organizations and their representatives from Slovakia, Czech
Republic and Poland, together reviewed present situation of Roma in
the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe. By the obtained
messages, and the actual information - mainly in the relation of the
process of European integration - the participants of the conference
have approved the following declaration:
 
1. European process of integration - that is in progress - is an
event, that basically influences the life of the European people in
all of its parts. In this process of integration there is included a
historical opportunity for solution of complicated situation of the
Roma at the European level within European civilization for their life
in the third Millennium.
 
2. Taking into account the fact, that in the process of negotiations
with candidate countries for membership into the European Union no
Roma have got opportunity to express their attitude to the affairs are
narrowly connected with them, from suggestion of the participants of
the conference have arised the "Initiation from Samorin" whose mission
and aim is setting - out demands and requirement of Roma in the
European process of integration with reference to their specific
status.
 
3. The participants of the conference have accepted decision for
implementation of "Initiation from Samorin" to be realized by the
following Roma organizations:
 
- Roma organizations in Slovakia
- Centrum of Roma culture and Worksociety of Roma in Novy Sacz in
Poland
- Board of regional Roma representatives ROS on the Czech Republic
