Press demonises leaders of the national republics, particularly of
Bashkiria. This hamper the President to realise that he has no enemies
in the republics

It seems that regional leaders gradually begin disliking the
federative reform. Confrontation with the President would be
undesirable, this is why the regional representatives found unusual
way to speak out. Members of the parliamentary group "Regions of
Russia" from Bashkiria Mikhail Bugera, Robert Nigmatulin and Khalil
Barlibaev accused Russian media in "demonisation of national republics
of Russia". These republics, particularly Bashkiria, "are portrayed as
the nests of separatism and nationalism, where nearly dictatorial
regimes have been established". And the campaign in media is, of
course, not accidental. It is "a noise accompaniment" of the
President's federative reform. Journalists present the regional
bigwigs "as hidden enemies of the reform and enemies of the President"
and hinder the Kremlin's understanding that in reality the regions are
not against the reform. They only warn that
"territorial-administrative novelties should not be considered a
panacea".
