Inquiry: Ukrainian or Tatar root for the name


Greetings!

You don't know me, but I am researching the origin and meaning of the
"Ukrainian" surname Chuchmai. There is no plausible Ukrainian root for
this name, and it has been suggested that the name is of Tatar
derivation.

If you know of the proper Tatar root or could provide any assistance
whatsoever I would be extremely grateful.
