Hidayat Orujov met with the speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Zurab
Jevania

The adviser to state for National Policy Affairs Hidayat Orujov met
with the speaker of the Parliament Zurab Jevania in Georgia. During
the meeting problems of Azeries, living in Georgia and Georgians -
citizens of Azerbaijan, were discussed. H. Orujov also met there with
the OSCE High Commissioner for national minorities Van der Stoel.
According to H. Orujov, OSCE representative appreciated Azerbaijan's
position on resolution of national minorities' problems. During his
meeting with the manager of the "Lix" organization the head of the
above company emphasized, he closely cooperates with the Azerbaijan's
ambassador to England Makhmud Mamedguliyev. He noted, Azerbaijan is an
example for protection of national minorities in the region.

All Azerbaijan Movement for Upper Karabakh is against giving of status
to Karabakh, contradicted the constitution

In a Press Club the All Azerbaijan Movement for Upper Karabakh held a
press conference, connected with its new conception, regarding
resolution of the Upper Karabakh problem. The leaders of the Movement
academician Arif Guliyev and Igbal Agazadeh expressed their protest
against giving of status to Armenians, living in Upper Karabakh,
contradicted to the republic's constitution.

I. Agazadeh imparted, the conception consists of 3 parts and
fulfillment of the UN Security Council's 5 Resolutions were made a
basis of the conceptions.

The second part required recognition of Azerbaijan and Armenia at
their boundaries in time of their admission to the UN. In the third
part they proposed to present to Lachin region the status of special
corridor. If Armenia doesn't accept these proposals, the Azeri nation
will liberate its territories by war, leaders of the movement said in
conclusion.

Conference, dedicated to problems of national minorities

In the capital of Georgia - Tbilisi, on May 15-17 a conference on the
theme "National minorities in Caucasus on the threshold of the XXI
century" was convoked, the adviser to state for national Policy
Affairs Hidayat Orujov reports.

Addressing the conference, initiated by the Parliament of Georgia and
a number of organizations, H. Orujov emphasized, there was no
discrimination on national and religion minorities in Azerbaijan for
the whole history. At the same time, he mentioned, after Heydar
Aliyev's re-coming to power a forward-looking national policy is
being carried out in Azerbaijan. H. Orujov laid stress on that
minorities' self-determination right has to be settled on a
professional level, i.e. state territorial inviolability principle has
to be kept. Though we are waging the war with Armenia, there are about
30 thousand Armenians living in Azerbaijan, 20 thousands of them are
in Baku.

It is impossible to face with such a fact all over the world, the
adviser to state H. Orujov said.

He also noted, that compact living of some nations-rests of national
minorities, sometimes lead to negative results. As an example he
reminded a genocide over Azeries, perpetrated by Armenians in Upper
Karabakh. Armenian representative, attending the conference preferred
to non-expression of his attitude to the facts, reminded by H. Orujov.
It should be reminded, the assistant of adviser to Armenia President
for National Policy Affairs represented Armenia at the conference. He
declared, Armenia is a monolithic state, only 3% of the population are
non-Armenians.

On behalf of the President Heydar Aliyev H. Orujov proposed to hold
the next conference in Baku. According to him, the proposal was
positively met.
