Press Release: Jerusalem Armenians Mark 86th Anniversary of the
Armenian Genocide

Jerusalem-19 April 2001,series of events marking the 86th Anniversary
of the Armenian Genocide has been announced by the Armenian National
Committee and the United Armenian Committee of Jerusalem.  The events,
which will run from April 23-24, will include demonstrations,
commemorative programs and requiem services honoring the victims of
the Armenian Genocide.

The schedule of events is as follows:


Monday, April 23, 2001
JAFFA

6:00pm

A requiem service devoted to the memory of the 1.5 Million Martyrs
will be held at 6:00pm in Saint Nicholas Armenian Church in Jaffa. A
special commemorative program will take place in the square of the
Church at 7:00pm.
Israeli high Political personalities are expected to attend the
commemorative program. The commemorative program will be followed by a
demonstration in Rabin�s Square (Kikar Rabin) at 8:00pm.


Tuesday, April 24, 2001

JERUSALEM

9:30am

A Divine Liturgy devoted to the memory of the 1.5 Million Martyrs will
be held at St.James Armenian Cathedral and at the Armenian Catholic
Church at 9:30am. The Divine Liturgy at St.James Church will be
followed by a requiem service presided by His Beatitude Armenian
Patriarch Archbishop Torkom Manoogian. Also the Divine Liturgy at the
Armenian Catholic Church will be followed by a requiem service
presided by Monsignore Andreas Bedoghlian. The crowd headed by His
Beatitude will move at 11:00am to the Armenian Martyrs Monument of
Arara Battle dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide located
in the Armenian Cemetery of St. Savior�s Convent. At 12:00am a
demonstration will take place at the Jaffa Gate. The demonstration
then will move to the Armenian Quarter. At 7:30pm a commemorative
program headed by His Beatitude Armenian Patriarch ArchbishopTorkom
Manoogian will take place in the Armenian Seminary hall.
