Expecting the possible solving of the situation on Balkan

Kumanovo / MACEDONIA ( RNN Correspondent ) April the 24th, 1999
Expecting the possible solving of the situation on Balkan

Yesterday we got an information that over 10000 Roma refugees have
left Kosovo escaping from the bombings and the great danger. They are
throughout Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia and in the inner parts of
Serbia. Roma People from Belgrade are asking for help, as well as food
and roof upon their heads, because their nests are destroyed now.
Though their houses were small, it was their treasure now they have
nothing left and they don't even know what's to come, they are asking
themselves could it be worse?

Last night the bombings were the most intensive. There are casualties
and big material damage. According to unofficial sources few
unexploded missiles fell near the towns Bujanovac and Presevo , and
they are potential danger to the People because they aren't
deactivated, yet. Some Roma families from Serbia skid for help (food)
because many sources of food have been diminished. Main reasons are
the destroyed bridges and railways.

But on the other hand People are getting together, they are more
unique them ever and determined that the strikes must stop. We can
watch RTS program again, after the latest strike on the national TV
building. The newest information for possible agreement lead to the
fact of final cease of fire, and there is great interest for these
information.

Situation in Macedonia

According to the latest information from Belgrade on possible
agreement for ending the attacks, the citizens are hoping to see it as
soon as possible.

New refugees are entering Macedonia these days, they are put in the
refugee camps, the care for them is taken over by the NGO from our
country and abroad after the retreat of the NATO soldiers.
The number of registrated refugees in Macedonia is still round
130000. The number of Roma refugees is increased up to 1800, but there
are cases of Roma refugees who are not declaring themselves as Roma
because they frightened. The Roma centers which received grants from
the Roma Regional Program: Roma Community Center
"DROM"Kumanovo-Macedonia, "KHAM" Tetovo, RC"Skopje", are very active
in the direct help to the refugees. This is big success and also
proved planned strategym and program of RPP Budapest-Soros Foundation,
Roma National Congers of successful activity as for in direct help to
the refugees and so in giving support for change of information in
relation with the situation of Roma in our country and the foreign
state. This is big success for the RomNews too, giving the possibility
to Roma and non-Roma People of proper and objective informing.

For all interested in sending help to us in Macedonia, here is useful
information:
We must transform our bank account because of the refugee's interest
in receiving the thee help more often and quick. Up to now, our Roma
People from Australia and one U.S. journalist have been sending some
money to us, but because of the great administrative procedure here
we will have to wait for some time to raise the money.

Greetings from Macedonia. We are looking forward to some better
information.
Good be with us all.
