'Multicultural Skyscraper' newsletter on Media Advocacy Work
for the Roma in Bulgaria

The latest issue of the 'Multicultural Skyscraper' newsletter appeared
this month. The newsletter regularly informs NGO and media
professionals and activists about the latest activities of the
On-Line/More Colour in the Media (OL/MCM) network and the latest
updates to its website, the Multicultural Skyscraper.

On-Line/More Colour in the Media is a network of broadcasters,
training institutes and multicultural organisations set up to improve
the representation of ethnic minorities in broadcasting, and has
initiated projects in the fields of employment, training, production
and research. It has created the Multicultural Skyscraper as an
information gateway on all things multicultural about the media.

The newsletter also features incidental contributions by invited
experts. This issue's featured guest contribution might be of specific
interest for you. Kamelia Angelova of the Human Rights Project (HRP),
a Bulgarian Roma rights advocacy organization, writes about the
organisation's 'Media and Advocacy' programme, through which it
promotes a greater participation and fairer representation of the Roma
in the Bulgarian media.

The Human Rights Project monitors and reports human rights abuses,
provides legal services to victimised Roma and lobbies the state,
succesfully, for less discriminatory policies. Exceptionally, it also
runs a 'Media and Advocacy' programme, which runs the gamut from media
monitoring, training of Roma journalists and establishing Roma radio
programmes to providing a support and reference point for journalists
and organising dialogue sessions where young journalists meet up with
local Roma communities.

If you would like to receive a copy of the current issue of the
Multicultural Skyscraper newsletter, and future issues as well, please
go to the homepage of the Multicultural Skyscraper site
(http://www.multicultural.net) and use the form there to subscribe
yourself. The Table of Contents and an on-line archive of back issues
can be found at http://www.multicultural.net/archive.asp.

We would welcome any questions or suggestions you might have in
response to the projects and activities outlined in the newsletter. If
you are developing activities of your own in this field, we would be
very glad to hear about them, and to explore possible leads and
parallels in our work.

With kind regards,

Joost van Beek
