ITALIAN ORGANISATIONS ASK FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Thousands of people have protested over the last months against the
politics of the Berlusconi government in Italy. They protested against
the deterioration of principles of democratic citizenship, such as
respect of diversity, equality, and the free press. Now they ask for
your support. The European Convention has just started to work on a
'new future for the European Union'. One of its members is Gianfranco
Fini, the leader of the 'post-fascist' National Alliance. Do we want
him to determine the future of Europe?
Read more in the attached text file (1page A4) and contact ARCI for
more info.

of the overall aim of promoting youth participation at a European
level and improving the quality of youth acitivities with an
intercultural dimension. For most training courses you will have to

E-NEWS Follow-up of the World Conference Against Racism

part 3

FOLLOW UP OF THE WORLD CONFERENCE AGAINST RACISM
Many organisations have wondered if the UN World Conference Against
Racism (WCAR) was a complete failure. Did nothing come out of it?
Actually, something did. Governments of all countries in the world
have been asked to present national action plans to combat racism and
related intolerance. The Council of Europe has convened a meeting
where governments and NGOs presented their proposals for guidelines
for those national action plans. I CARE, the Internet Centre
Anti-Racism Europe, is happy to offer you a new service. We just
opened a new page for National Action Plans in Europe. On this page
you will find an overview of National Action Plans (NAPs), a guideline
for NAPs, proposals for NAPs in different countries and information on
any progress made.
The page is
http://www.icare.to/naps/
I CARE has also created a new mailinglist with the purpose of
discussing National Action Plans, called [email protected]. You can
subscribe to it by sending an email to
[email protected] with "subscribe naps" in the subject line.

Furthermore, several people who were involved in the preparations of
the WCAR have presented their analysis of what went wrong or right.
UNITEDs representative in the structures of the NGO Forum has
presented his analysis at several occasions. You can now find this
text on the UNITED website
http://www.unitedagainstracism.org, click on conferences and scroll
down to the World Conference, or click on 'new on this site'.
