New publication of Moldovan Helsinki Committee


On March 15, 1999 Moldovan Helsinki Committee for Human Rights
launched the publication, "Right to liberty of religion, conscience
and thought in the Republic of Moldova" (300 pages) in Romanian. The
press conference was held at the Union of Journalists of Moldova at
11.30. English summary of content and preface are provided.
 
The publication was the result of three years of activity of the
Moldovan Helsinki in monitoring religious rights violations in
Moldova, militating religious freedoms before the public authorities,
writing critical analysis of the religious related provisions of the
respective Moldovan laws, etc. Book contains four chapters as follows:
 
1. Relevant International Documents (extracts from EuCo, ICCPR, texts
of (1992) Declaration on the rights of persons belonging to national
or ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities, Declaration on the
elimination of all forms of intolerance and of discrimination based on
religion or belief (1981), report of the commission of human rights on
the respect of religious rights and liberties (1991), Classical EuCo
case law - Kokkinakis, Efstratiou, Larissis, Canea, etc)
 
2. National documents and public opinions (comprehensive collection of
Moldovan courts jurisprudence related to religious freedoms -
including Mitropolia Basarabei case, texts of relevant Moldovan
legislation, public opinions of non-governmental sector as to the
practice of respect of religious freedoms in Moldova)
 
3. Proceedings to the seminar of May 1998 with the same title,
gathering all denominations and religious organizations with the
consultative support of the Council of Europe
 
4. Contributions (articles by Moldovan experts on critical comparative
analysis of the existent religious related Moldovan legislation,
judiciary practice of Moldovan courts)
 
The publication is distributed to all public libraries and interested
parties.
 
The Moldovan Helsinki intends to make it available soon by downloading
