International workshop: Stability and Peace in the Caucasus: The Case
of Nagorno-Karabakh, May 2-4, 2001, Loccum, Germany
Organisers: Stiftung Entwicklung und Frieden (Peace and Development
Foundation) and the Evangelische Akademie Loccum
The purpose of the International Workshop is to analyse the causes of
conflict in the Caucasus, its realities, and the obstacles to peace.
The workshop also seeks to further the discussion as to what options
for peace and development exist within the region. The meeting will
mainly discuss the options for action and schemes of the
civil-society actors and of the EU. A special focus will be on the
conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. Most experts argue that this conflict
plays a key role in the highly sensitive region at the crossroads of
geo-strategical interests and external influences. In addition to the
speakers outlined in the programme below there will be a number of
additional participants from official and non-governmental circles
from the Caucasus.

The conference languages are English and Russian. Presentations and
discussions in plenary sessions will be simultaneously translated. In
the smaller work groups the discussions will be held predominantly in
English.
Conference fees DM 230,- / EUR 115,- including accommodation and
meals; a reduction to DM 90,- / EUR 45,- is possible for students (up
to 30 years old) and unemployed, if a valid certification is
presented; a reduction for participants, who attend only a part of the
conference, is not possible.
