17-25 March 2001
ACTIVITIES NOW IN OVER 29 COUNTRIES

In already 29 countries all over Europe organisations plan activities
for the European-wide Action Week Against Racism 2001. The list of
activities reflects the diversity of the actions all over Europe. In
France, Poland and the Netherlands a row of activities like
discussions, anti-racist education, lectures, showing of films,
demonstrations, conferences and concerts take place during the whole
month of March. In Sarajevo (Bosnia-Herzegovina) the Nansen Dialogue
Centre organises a "Conference Against Racism" and distributes UNITED
posters. Press campaigns and radio shows are organised in Finland,
Germany, Hungary, Luxemburg, Malta, Moldova, Netherlands, Poland,
Portugal and Yugoslavia. Like every year the World Association
Community Radio Broadcasters sends a 24-hours radio-campaign from
Johannesburg (SA), Montreal (CDN) and Vienna (A) relayed via the
Internet and via Satellite to community and free radios world-wide.
Contact AMARC for joining the campaign! Or support the other
activities all over Europe and take a look on the updated list of

UNITED has collected information on the deaths of refugees seeking a

suicide in detention centres where they see no more future. A shocking
list of 2214 cases has been compiled.
If you have information (especially newspaper cuttings) please send
them to UNITED.
A poster with campaign information on the backside is available! Order
your free copies (up to 100 for free, more can be ordered for special

UN decide on world-wide Refugee Day
INTERNATIONAL REFUGEE DAY MOVES FROM 16 TO 20 JUNE

Since several years non-governmental organisations have celebrated
International Refugee Day. However, it has been celebrated on a
variety of dates. To increase our impact on society and on the
political agenda it would be wise to concentrate on the same date in
the different countries. As the UNHCR celebrates its 50 year
anniversary this year, there are many special activities.
