CALL FOR RESEARCH PAPERS
 
The Managing Multiethnic Communities Project of the Local Government
and Public Service Reform Initiative (LGI MMCP) is happy to announce a
project to disseminate research papers focusing on multicultural
politics and ethnic relations in Central and Eastern Europe and in
states of the former Soviet Union.
 
In cooperation with research institutes, non-governmental
organizations, and governmental institutions, LGI MMCP aims at
developing a database taking advantage of already existing knowledge
and expertise through collecting and publishing research papers in the
field of community relations in multiethnic environment and local
initiatives for ethnic conflict resolution.
 
We are calling organizations and individuals with an expertise in
issues related to minorities and public administration, to submit
previously published papers to the LGI MMCPfor use in this project.
Papers should be submitted in English or in original language with an
English language resume. All papers remain the property of the authors
and/or the organizations.
 
The following list consists of possible subject areas of studies.
However, this list should not be taken as a full list, it is rather a
suggestion. Any other important topic relevant to local governance in
multi-ethnic environment is welcome.
 
- Socio-economic empowering of minorities (that would incorporate
local policies concerning welfare,  health, poverty, unemployment and
housing)
- Preservation of culture and identity (degree of self-organisation,
autonomy)
    - Education for minorities (mother tongue, culture, history)
    - Education for the majority on minorities
- Strategies of management of inter-ethnic relations, conflict
prevention, ethnic conflict resolution
    - Use of mother tongue in public administration
    - Participation and representation of minorities in local
governance
- Representation of minorities in the public discourse and the media
- Implementation of standards and guarantees of rights, minority
rights and human rights issues
     - Discrimination and equal opportunities for minorities, positive
discrimination
     - Financing minority initiatives and organisations at the local
level
     - Different aspects of Roma-non-Roma relations
     - Accommodation, settlement and repatriation of refugees,
migrants
 
Collected papers will be published on LGI's world wide web site
<http://www.osi.hu/lgi> in a searchable  database . In the database
the full text of the research paper, a short resume and a link to the
contributing organization's web site or  a reference to the contact
address will appear. Authors are welcome to submit their papers in
original language if they provide the title and a short resume of the
paper in English.
 
Should you be interested in participating in this project, please
forward a copy of each paper on a computer diskette to us. Or, if you
have access to e-mail, you may send the entire text as an attachment
to <[email protected]>.
