BETA: Disagreement Between Montenegro and Novi Pazar Muslims

BETA DAILY NEWS
January 28

KURPEJOVIC CRITICIZES ALOMEROVIC'S STATEMENTS ABOUT MOSLEMS. The
leader of the Montenegrin Matica Muslimanska organization, Avdul
Kurpejovic rejected the claim made by the Novi Pazar Helsinki
Committee's president, Sefko Alomerovic, that the current position of
the Moslems in Montenegro "is the same as it was during the reign of
King Nikola, when major ethnic cleansing took place."

In the statement, made public by the Montenegrin media on Jan. 27,
Kurpejovic emphasized that the Moslems in Montenegro were mature
enough to decide about their destiny and criticized Alomerovic for
doing what some parties from Novi Pazar do, propagating Bosnia as
their motherland, and the Bosnian Moslems as the domicile people.

"In that way, Moslems in Serbia and Montenegro are offered ethnic
homogenization and restriction to a ghetto, instead of integration and
life with other people", assessed Kurpejovic.

He also criticized Sefko Alomerovic for "denying the national
identity, without any grounds or authority, and for carrying out
pan-Bosnian assimilation by adding the term 'Bosniak' to Moslems.
