Fwd: International Symposia on Negotiation and Conflict
Resolution

----- Forwarded Message -----
From: "IIMCR" <[email protected]>

Greetings from IIMCR!

The Institute for International Mediation and Conflict Resolution
(IIMCR) is proud to announce our 2002 International Student Symposia
on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. These unique programs empower
young people with practical skills in negotiation, mediation, and
cross-cultural communication and promote values of cooperation and
tolerance among them. IIMCR believes that young people can play an
important role in building peace and promoting prosperity in their
communities and countries, but only if they are properly equipped to
do so.

By attending our symposia, students and young professionals are
offered the following opportunities:

- A forum for career guidance and an opportunity to network with
leading practitioners and scholars in the field.
- Significant exposure to a great diversity of views and cultures from
peers and guests.
- An atmosphere that spawns ideas, facilitates cooperation and often
results in lasting friendships.
- Encouragement and assistance in putting the skills learned into
practice in participants' home environments and abroad.
- Continued access to IIMCR's network of conflict resolution experts.

If you have access to resources that will reach students and young
professionals, please help us by spreading the word. Thank you for
your assistance.

Next summer, IIMCR will offer two symposia:

1) The 2002 International Student Symposium on Negotiation and
Conflict Resolution

In partnership with Erasmus University and The Elliott School of
International Affairs at The George Washington University.

Where? The Hague, The Netherlands
When? July 20 - August 17, 2002
URL: http://www.iimcr.org/symposium/symposium2002-intl.asp

The Symposium in The Hague is IIMCR's flagship program, now entering
its 7th year. Each summer, the Symposium complements negotiation and
mediation skills training with an in-depth analysis of current issues
in international affairs.

2) The 2002 Latin American Student Symposium on Negotiation and
Conflict Resolution

In partnership with Tec de Monterrey and The Elliott School of
International Affairs at The George Washington University.

Where? Monterrey, Mexico
When? June 15 - July 13, 2002
URL: http://www.iimcr.org/symposium/symposium2002-mx.asp

The first annual Latin American Symposium will combine conflict
resolution skills training with a focus on Latin American affairs.
Through simulations drawn from actual regional disputes, participants
will gain a fundamental understanding of contemporary Latin American
issues and develop a skill set to effectively address conflict at
various levels of society.

Applications

IIMCR is now accepting applications for both Symposia. Admissions
criteria and application procedures can be found on the symposia
webpages, respectively. Admissions are ROLLING - meaning complete
applications will be evaluated as soon as IIMCR receives them, and
applicants will be notified of admissions decisions within 10 days.

The deadline for submitting complete applications is March 1, 2002.
However, given the size of past applicant pools, IIMCR sugests
submitting applications as soon as possible.
