ON NEWS AGENCIES

February 28, 1995

Effective under Resolution #74a/95-VR of the Verkhovna Rada, as of 02.28.95

This Law, in keeping with the Constitution of Ukraine, other laws of Ukraine and international legal documents, establishes the legal ground of the activities in Ukraine of news agencies and their international cooperation.

Article 1. News Agencies: Definition

Under this Law, news agencies shall be duly registered legal entities, subjects of information activities, functioning for the purpose of rendering information services.

Under this Law, a representation of a news agency in Ukraine shall be any institution (e.g., bureau, representation, office, etc.) registered in Ukraine, in keeping with the law, as a subject of information activities, representing a government or non-government news agency, registered as a juridical person under the laws of the respective country, conducting business in Ukraine in the sphere of information, in conformity with the Law of Ukraine On Information, and in pursuance of this Law.

Article 3. Language Used in News Agencies' Coverage

In keeping with the laws of Ukraine, the news agencies shall promulgate their coverages in the official and other languages, while adhering to the universally recognized norms of journalistic ethics.

Article 13. Application for State Registration of News Agencies

An application for the state registration of a news agency shall specify:

(5) Language(s) in which the agency's products will be distributed;
